Letter, 1832 Dec. 9th [to] Hon. Lewis Cass, Secretary at [sic] War.

Letter to Lewis Cass claiming that Captain Hitchcock's charge that Smith was absent from the barracks after taps is unfounded. Smith is concerned about the precedent that will be set if an officer is able to accuse and punish a cadet without evidence. F.A. Smith sent a copy of this letter to Sylvanus Thayer with a note explaining his reasons for appealing to the Secretary of War.
